Born & raised in a small village in North East England, by her teens Louise was eager to break free & explore the World. In the early 90s Louise saw her opportunity & left home to work as a nanny in Sweden.
After working overseas for a couple of years, Louise relocated to London to embark upon what would become a 10 year career in business management.
During this time, Louise became a mother & as her children grew she felt increasingly drawn to return to her roots so they could grow up amongst their wider family, in the village where she had enjoyed her own childhood & where they could share in her love of local football.
Louise was ready for another career change & after the demands of running a business she was keen to take on a role which allowed more space for family life. It was this desire that led her to start working in schools offering special educational needs support.
Though at the time, it was pure serendipity that led Louise to this work, it quickly became evident that supporting others through behavioural & emotional issues was her calling. Louise found that she had a natural ability & enthusiasm for building positive therapeutic relationships with the troubled young people in her care & this skill was soon recognised, with her being referred increasingly complex cases.
As her work became ever more challenging, Louise realised that she needed to be better equipped & it was this that led her to start counselling training at Sunderland University.
Since qualifying in 2009 Louise has gained a wide breadth of clinical experience. She has worked in forensic settings, a university student counselling service, a work place counselling service & in the NHS, for both primary & tertiary care providers.
Alongside this clinical work, Louise has continually sought to expand both her skill set & knowledge of theory through practical training & academic study.
Louise achieved a masters in psychology in 2013 & then went on to train as a counselling psychologist at Teesside University.
Louise has also trained in EMDR & is a registered therapist with the EMDR Association UK & Ireland.
In conjunction with her clinic days at The Clearing, Louise continues to work in the NHS offering long term psychodynamic therapy to her clients.
Louise is a chartered counselling psychologist with over 10 years of clinical experience.
The wealth of skills that she has accrued over this time, alongside extensive training in both EMDR & counselling psychology make Louise an excellent all rounder. She’s a therapist who is just as comfortable offering effective, short term solution focused therapy as she is long term depth psychotherapy.
Louise is approachable & down to earth. Her focus will be to get to know you really well so she can shape her approach to fit who you are & what it is you need.
So whether you are looking to delve deep into the roots of your difficulties or to find some here & now solutions, Louise can help you to achieve your goals.
“When life gets hard, we can often feel so isolated. It’s important to me that you know that no matter what you are going through, you are not alone.
Therapy offers you a space to feel both connected & supported. As a counselling psychologist in training, I put the therapeutic relationship that we will build together at the heart of the process.
I’m interested in what makes you unique – how you think & make sense of the World; the ways in which you process & communicate your feelings. I’ll attend to all of this & will always seek to shape your therapy accordingly.
Although the process can be difficult at times, I’ll be there to help you to navigate the challenges. In my experience, they always pay off in the end & in time I hope that you will experience how very rewarding, worthwhile & ultimately life changing this process can be.
It’s true that choosing a therapist & starting therapy can be daunting. With me you can be sure that you will find a calm & caring space where you can safely begin to explore yourself, your situation & the issues at hand on this journey to personal acceptance & understanding.”
Louise & the rest of the team look forward to welcoming you to The Clearing.
