Ruby Aujla

Biography

Ruby’s journey towards becoming a counsellor started back in 2000, when she joined Northern Life Care as a Support Worker. Here she discovered she had a real gift for empathy & communication.

This set her on course for a career in the caring profession & since that time she has accrued nearly twenty years of experience in the field of mental health & social care.

Over the years Ruby has assisted people with learning disabilities along with their families both in daycare settings & in the community.

She’s worked as a mental health rehabilitation project worker, supporting clients with severe mental health issues such as paranoid delusions, schizophrenia, borderline & histrionic personality disorders & agoraphobia to build their confidence & reintegrate into the community.

And she has worked with inpatients across the NHS who were affected by mood affective disorders, personality disorders, dementia & Alzheimer’s disease, brain injury, autistic spectrum disorders, severe addictions & eating disorders.

During her time working with clients with learning disabilities, Ruby’s interest in psychology grew & in 2003 she decided to enrol on an Honours degree in Psychology at Sunderland University.

These studies encouraged Ruby to learn more & in 2009 she commenced her training at the Northern Guild to become a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. Since this time Ruby has achieved her Diploma & Post-Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling & her Masters degree in Adult Psychotherapy.

Ruby’s counselling experience is as vast & varied as her work experience. During her training, Ruby worked as a Primary Care Counsellor across the North East, supporting clients who were facing a wide range of general mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, OCD, childhood trauma & social anxiety. She also volunteered at the North Tyneside victim support bureau, offering emotional support to people who had been affected by crime.

Since qualifying, Ruby worked in her own private practice as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, before joining the team at The Clearing.

Over the years that she has been with us, she has successfully helped people to overcome a myriad of difficulties, such as low self esteem, panic disorder, personality disorders, childhood abuse, addiction & gender dysphoria; & has supported couples to find their way through betrayals, the challenges of blending families & conflict in communication styles.

This wealth of experience in offering emotional support & talking therapies to individuals & couples of varying ages & backgrounds has made Ruby a highly skilled, competent & incredibly wise practitioner.

More about Ruby

Ruby is a clinical psychotherapist accredited with the UKCP. She is a highly experienced practitioner, having worked now in the field for nearly 10 years.

Ruby will draw upon her training in transactional analysis, gestalt & the creative therapies to help you to form a deep understanding of the issues that you are facing. For it’s only once the root of the issue has been properly brought to light, that true healing & change can happen.

Ruby is a very creative, colourful & gentle person, who will use her warmth & good humour to help you to listen to your own voice & find your own unique way forward. She cares deeply about her clients & will always go the extra mile to help you to get what you need from the therapeutic process.

Ruby says

“Happiness is not a given, it requires work. The work of really looking at our own patterns & being brave enough to both explore & to change them. My goal is to help you to do this, so that you can move from where you are now to where you would like to be.

As your psychotherapeutic counsellor, I will listen to your story & work with you to identify & explore the roots of the issues that you are facing.

We are all products of our early experiences & are by nature, creatures of habit, so it is often the case that outmoded beliefs about ourselves & patterns of relating can prevent us from realising our true potential.

Many of us fall into the trap of not feeling good enough or worthy of the things we want in life & these feelings of shame & fear can really imprison us. This is where therapy can be completely life changing.

In getting to the heart of the issues together, we’ll start removing these blocks so that you can be free to explore different ways of thinking & being. In this way, I’ll support you to find your right way forward so that you can bring more fulfilment, happiness & love into your life”

Ruby & the rest of the team look forward to welcoming you to The Clearing.
