Sam Dinsley

Biography

Sam knew from childhood that she wanted to be a therapist. Since as far back as she can remember, she’s always been the one her friends have turned to in times of need & this has never changed.

Sam was therefore eager to pursue this career straight away & after completing her A levels, she headed to University to study applied psychology.

Whilst undertaking this course, she sought to gain more experience in the field & so spent two years volunteering at Safety Net Carlisle. This charity offers therapeutic support to children & young people who have been affected by sexual violence & abuse.

Sam worked closely with the counsellors there & was the front of house point of contact for the service users. As part of this work she also took part in specialist safeguarding training which gave her further insight into these complex & sensitive issues.

After graduating with a 2:1 honours degree, Sam returned home & commenced her counselling training with the Northern Guild.

This robust three year training course specialises in Transactional Analysis & places a strong emphasis on self-development through long term personal therapy & ongoing self reflection.

During this training, Sam worked as a counsellor both in the NHS & the charitable sector. She gained experience of offering both short term & long term therapy to clients who were struggling with a wide range of issues such as bereavement, depression, anxiety, miscarriage, suicidal thoughts & abuse.

Sam also obtained specialist experience in working with parents of children who had been diagnosed with autism.

Sam is keen to expand her knowledge & continues to focus on her professional development through her own private study & organised CPD courses.

She is currently working towards accreditation with the BACP.
