Sara Belk

Biography

Sara remembers often being encouraged as a child to tune into the emotional experiences of others, in order to form a better understanding of where they were coming from & meet them with compassion.

Her mother who worked as a social worker placed a great emphasis on acceptance & empathy & served as Sara’s first inspiration to join a helping profession.

However, it was only after she had experienced her own personal struggles that Sara felt compelled to work in the field of mental health, so that she could support others to reach a place of wellbeing.

After graduating from Newcastle University with a combined honours degree, Sara took the first steps towards her dream with a voluntary Listener role with the Samaritans & a job as an administrator for Barnados.

Two years later she enrolled on the post graduate certificate at Newcastle University in low intensity psychological interventions which she passed with distinction.

She commenced work as a psychological wellbeing practitioner for Newcastle Talking Therapies, where she gained experience offering brief psychological interventions to people who were affected by mild to moderate depression, anxiety disorders & stress.

In 2015, Sara undertook her specialist CBT training in the form of a post graduate diploma in cognitive behavioural therapy. At this time she was promoted to the role of high intensity cognitive behavioural therapist within the NHS IAPT service.

This promotion saw Sara undertaking longer term therapy to help clients overcome more complex or severe issues such as severe depression & anxiety, low self esteem & eating disorders.

Alongside her main qualifications, Sara has taken part in numerous & regular continuing professional development courses which have covered topics such as mindfulness, eating disorders & nutritional psychology. She is currently in the process of qualifying as an EMDR therapist.

Sara is a cognitive behavioural therapist accredited with the BABCP. Alongside CBT, she draws tools from mindfulness, compassion focussed therapy & dialectical behaviour therapy.

Sara’s extensive experience of working in the NHS psychological wellbeing services means that she is both able to work in a open ended way & in a brief & focussed manner.

She’s a warm & friendly person who always puts her clients at the heart of the process, attuning to their needs & shaping therapy accordingly.

Sara applies her CBT training with wisdom & depth. With her you can be sure that you will receive both here & now relief through the targeted strategies of this approach & a greater understanding of yourself to support your long term healing.

I’ll provide an accepting, safe space where you can explore your problems. My role is to be your team mate in therapy, helping you to reach your goals, with the aim of building your confidence in your own abilities to overcome any challenges that you may face in the future.”
