  1. In-person therapy

In-person therapy and counselling

Some of our therapists offer in-person therapy and counselling, at locations across the North East. If face-to-face support feels important to you, you can explore the options available and choose a therapist who feels like the right fit.

Although The Clearing primarily offers online therapy and counselling, some of our therapists offer in-person sessions at locations across the North East.

We do not operate as a traditional clinic with one fixed therapy centre. Instead, in-person sessions are arranged through individual therapists.

If in-person therapy is not available in your preferred area, online therapy is an alternative option to access support with the therapist that feels right for you.

What is in-person therapy?

In-person therapy, sometimes called face-to-face counselling, takes place with your therapist in their consulting room.

Some people prefer in-person sessions because they offer a clearer separation from home, feel more grounding, or make it easier to connect with their therapist.

Like online therapy, in-person therapy gives you a confidential space to talk, reflect and explore what has brought you to therapy. The way sessions feel will depend on your therapist’s approach, your needs and what you want support with.

Is in-person therapy right for me?

In-person therapy may be a good option if you prefer being in the same room as your therapist, want a separate space away from home, or feel more comfortable talking face-to-face.

It may suit you if:

  • you prefer face-to-face conversations
  • you do not have a private space at home
  • travelling to therapy helps you prepare or decompress
  • you feel more grounded in a shared physical space
  • you want clearer separation between therapy and everyday life
  • there is an available therapist near you who feels like a good fit

In-person therapy is not necessarily better than online therapy. The right format is the one that supports you to engage consistently in therapy sessions.

Online or in-person: which should I choose?

Online therapy may suit you if

You want greater flexibility and convenience, prefer therapy from home, or live outside the local area.

In-person therapy may suit you if

You prefer being face-to-face, want a therapy space away from home, or feel more comfortable speaking in the same room.

The relationship matters most

Whether online or in person, the relationship you build with your therapist is the most important aspect of good therapy.

What to know about in-person therapy

In-person therapy offers a calm, private space away from home, where you can meet your therapist face-to-face and talk through what has been troubling you.

At The Clearing, in-person sessions are available with selected therapists at locations across the North East. You can check each therapist’s profile to see whether they offer face-to-face sessions and where they are based.

FAQs

Where are you based?

The Clearing primarily offers online therapy and counselling across the UK. Some therapists also offer in-person sessions in selected locations, depending on availability.

Do you have a therapy clinic?

The Clearing does not operate as one fixed clinic in the traditional sense. In-person sessions are offered by individual therapists in appropriate therapy spaces across the North East.

Is in-person therapy better than online therapy?

Not necessarily. Both online and in-person therapy can offer meaningful support. The right choice depends on what helps you feel safe, comfortable and able to attend consistently.

How do I book an in-person session?

In-person sessions are booked through individual therapist profiles. You can browse therapists by session format and location, then choose someone who feels like a good fit.

What if there is no in-person therapist near me?

Online therapy can still give you access to good support from The Clearing. You can browse online therapists or get in touch if you are unsure what would work best.

Can I switch between online and in-person therapy?

In some cases, yes. You can discuss options with your therapist directly.

What happens in an in-person therapy session?

You and your therapist meet in a private therapy space. Sessions usually last between 50–60 minutes, depending on the therapist and service. You do not need to know exactly what to say before you begin. Your therapist will help you to get the conversation started.
